Are you a meal skipper?

Are you a meal skipper? I am. And I’m really really bad about it. For a long time I didn’t think it was a big deal. Like, I’m not hungry so surely it doesn’t matter that I’m not eating. But it is a big deal. And it’s one that might take a while to fix. Just like it might take a while before you see the damage of all those skipped meals.

My habit? Forgetting to eat. And who forgets to eat, right? Turns out: me.

I won’t get too technical, but skipping meals can cause a whole list of problems. From messing with your blood sugar, to slowing your metabolism, depleting your muscle mass, and tanking your energy levels, not fuelling your body regularly can cause quite the mess.

And yet, how often do I find myself in a position where it’s already 4pm and I’ve just realised that I haven’t eaten the whole day? Too often…

After acknowledging that I had to make some serious changes if I wanted my health and energy levels to improve, I knew that I would have to start with ensuring that I have breakfast every day. I’ve since found that my ideal is to eat immediately after waking. Of course, wanting to eat so early in the morning is something that I actually had to get into a habit of. Luckily, drinking my food has been a lot easier to deal with than actual eating and for this I am so grateful to Herbalife.

I know that even though there will probably still be days where I forget to eat, but at least if I stick to my habit of having my shake for breakfast I can be confident that I have at least given myself an essential nutrition boost for the day.

I am trying to break the habit though, and the 5 Day Challenges help a lot.

So I’m on my way to being a former meal skipper. And I know my body is thanking me for it.

Accountable Couples Cope Better

Do you know what one of the hardest things to do it? It’s hard being the only one in the house who is trying to eat better.

Let’s say, for example, that I have decided that I should start eating better, but the rest of my family is planning to carry on as normal. Now it’s burger day in the house. Don’t worry I’ll just eat the healthy parts of the meal.

Uh…no…

Come suppertime and here you go honey, here’s your burger patty and lettuce garnish. (more…)

Are you up for a 5 Day Healthy Eating Challenge?

Definitely one of my favourite things happening at the Lifestyle Wellness Hub at St. George’s Park is the 5 Day Healthy Eating Challenges that are run by various members of the team. Every Monday a new challenge starts, and these challenges are a truly fun and easy way to help get folks started on their goals to live healthier lifestyles.

The best part about these challenges is that as much as they challenge you, they also kind of fit easily into your lifestyle. Run entirely on Whatsapp, they’re a low maintenance way to help you get where you want to be. And it works! (more…)

Add more healthy fats to your Herbalife shake

Adding fat to your smoothie will, of course, add some calories.  But healthy fats offer up more than that – you can also pick up some vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and fibre along the way.

Seeds  like flax, hemp, chia or sunflower seeds add a bit of texture to your smoothie, and give a little boost of minerals (especially copper and zinc) and omega-3 fatty acids.

Nut butters  such as almond, walnut or pistachio, also contribute zinc and copper, along with some protein and fibre, too.

Avocado adds a silky-smooth add-in to smoothies, and provides the same healthy fats found in olive oil along with some vitamin E.

Learn Your Heart Out

Hello again Herbalifers!

This weekend a whole bunch of our peeps are off to the LDW (Leadership Development Weekend) in Cape Town and of course the excitement is palpable. I always love the vibe involved in such journeys. I love thinking about the friendships made, and the friendships rekindled. I think about all the learning that will take place. And I think about how for so many people this is the first step towards an incredible future. This weekend, there will be a room filled with the future faces of our incredible company. That’s kind of awesome!

As a mom and stepmom I put an extraordinary amount of thought into the children and their “education” and often find myself increasingly frustrated at how much of the education systems as we know them are not actually capable of preparing our children for the future, or at the very least, how they are being prepared for a future that no longer exists. But then as I watch our little Herbalife world grow each day and I hear more stories and meet more people who all seem to have so much to teach, I am comforted by the idea that education for the present and future exists in all sorts of forms. You only need to look in the right places.

To all of you who are making the journey to the LDW this weekend, I hope you have a safe journey. I also hope that you will let yourself be open to the teachings of those who have gone before you. Never discount the education that you receive as a Herbalifer. Even if you decide one day that you need to move in a different direction, the things you learn at these trainings will most certainly act a guide no matter where your business ideals take you. These trainings are exceptional, and they are never a waste, as long as you listen.

To those who aren’t going to be at this training: Do yourself a favour and make sure you get to the next one. The energy and excitement that you encounter at these events is magical and it will do so much for you and your peace of mind. Do not discount that power. It truly has the potential to be life changing.

I do envy those of you who are extravaganzaing this weekend. You will all have an incredible time, I’m sure! Don’t forget to drink in every moment of it and come hope an even better version of your Herbalife self.

Have a great weekend, folks!
